Master, I know that my remaining life
Is portioned out for me,
And the changes that are sure to come,
I do not fear to see;
But I ask You for a humble mind
Intent on pleasing You.
I would not have the restless will
That hurries to and fro,
Seeking for great things to do
Or secret things to know;
I would be treated as a child,
And guided where I go.
So I ask You for the daily strength,
To worship be not denied,
And a mind to blend with servile life
While keeping at Your side;
Content to fill a little space,
If You be revered and glorified.
In a service which Your will appoints,
There are no bonds for me,
For my inmost heart is taught the truth
That makes a simple man free;
And a life of self-renouncing slavery
is a life of liberty.
